Search Google for "Skin's pH", a lot of misleading information about skin's pH. Well, you yourself can find these information in the web too. So here usually what is all about.
Here we will point out a few things
They said our skin's pH is 5.5
We heard a lot of commercial advertisements tell us that our skin's pH is 5.5. But no one tell us why?
Our skin's pH is 5.5 is due to two reasons.
First: Sweat
Sweat is excretion of our body fluid, which contain minerals, water, oil, hormone, etc. All these compositions in the sweat is due to one's diet, gender and life style. And we know our body excrete things that our body don't want. Acidic free radical is one of them. That is why those people who drink a lot water and exercise to sweat is healthier than most people.
Second: Environment
If you living in a place that is hot and humid, your dead skin will be a good food for bacteria to do the "fermentation" process on your skin and make it to become acidic. Just like spoil milk.
So now, does pH 5.5 really have protection factor??
The answer is NO. pH5.5 simply not low enough to kill bacteria, fungus, mold or any other microbes. In order to kill or suppress microbe's activity, your skin's acidity has to go below pH5, and unfortunately some individual has low tolerant of skin's low pH, too low it will cause itchiness and rashes.
The role of pH in acne
Frankly, pH don't play much role in acne out break. And the out break of acne should not blame the microbes alone. Acne will be discussed in next topic.
The role of pH in dry skin
And yet again, it is not a major role too. First of all, you have to ask yourself why your skin dry. Your skin is dry because you have sign of premature aging or a disease call eczema. How to "moist" your skin will be talk about it later too.
All we want to emphasize is that the skin's pH5.5 not much of role of "protection against microbes", ask yourself after using those cleanser that claim pH5.5, do your skin heal better or less body odor? We hope my readers will be a smart consumer to ask deeper question not fooled by general advertisement using "scare tactic".
